Haikou Eco-Diversity Trail
CLIMATE
Hainan Island enjoys a tropical monsoon climate with annual average temperatures ranging from 23°C to 26°C. Located in northern Hainan, the weather in Haikou does not change much throughout the year. While the dry season (spring and winter) is warm and windy, the wet season (summer and autumn) is hot and humid. Hainan’s coastline is 1,528 kilometers long, with extensive sandy beaches and rocky shores. Hainan’s warm weather, along with an uneven distribution of rainfall and varied topography result in rich and varied habitats, from mangrove, grassland, shrubland, and secondary forest, to the precious primary rainforest. More than 4,000 species of plants grow in Hainan, roughly one-seventh of China’s total, of which over 600 spices are native to the island.
