Dongguan Eco-Forest Trail
ECOLOGICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Systematic reforestation work and woodland conservation efforts over the decades have helped to restore biodiversity to this region. Today, this previously barren hill is green and full of life. Ear-leaved Acacia (Acacia auriculiformis) and Big-leaved Acacia (Acacia mangium) are the main reforested species used for plantations, while the vibrant native trees that grow spontaneously here are maturing, bringing the woodland to a new chapter. The dense woods open as the trail leads uphill where a thick carpet of Dichotomy Forked Fern (Dicranopteris pedata) and Sword Fern (Nephrolepis auriculata) coats the ground.
This natural sanctuary gives shelter to many wildlife species and a dazzling array of birds roosting and feeding in the woods. Butterflies that dance around flowers and Wandering Gliders (Pantala flavescens) that rest on leaves are just part of the beautiful scenery along the trail.
