2013 Berlin High-level Dialogue on Sustainable Cities and Urban Transport
The Berlin High-level Dialogue on Implementing Rio+20 Decisions on Sustainable Cities and Urban Transport and 2013 Global Forum on Human Settlements was successfully held during the period of June 19 – 21, 2013. This forum provided relevant nations, regions, stakeholders, policy makers, specialists and corporate representatives a communication platform to share ideas and exchange thoughts, so as to discuss and promote sustainability policies, procedures and best practices in city and urban transport developments. In addition, this forum not only enabled us to share our expertise in city and urban transport planning, but also helped the United Nations to establish "The sustainable development targets" to be published after 2015.
Nearly 400 representatives from 31 countries attended this forum. Some important guests among them are quite famous in the international arena, including the United Nations Under-Secretary General, Mr. Gyan Acharya, Chairman of the German Federal Environment Agency Jochen Granz Barth, Chairman of the Global Forum on Human Settlements and former UN Under-Secretary General and High Representative Chairman Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury, and ministers from Germany, India, Sri Lanka, Columbia and Kenya; officials from United Nations and World Bank, and more than 60 mayors or government senior officials from Bangkok - Thailand, Rio - Brazil, Navi Mumbai - India, Lviv - Ukraine, Santa Monica - USA and Amen - Jordan. Moreover, professional scholars, international organizations, and multinational corporates such as Siemens, Schneider, Bosch, Daimler, Toyota, together with more than 50 government officials, corporates representatives, experts and scholars from China also participated this forum as well.
During the forum, representative from Mission Hills China introduced how Mission Hills Resort carried out the Rio+20 decisions to establish a low carbon and environmental resort and its corresponding experiences in terms of the environmental, economic and social benefits, and attracted attention and discussion widely.
The award presentation ceremony was held on June 20, and it was fascinating. The Global Human Settlements Awards were organized by the Global Forum on Human Settlements. The awards have been held seven times before in China, USA and Brazil. The 8th forum was jointly organized by United Nations Environmental Program and United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and United Nations Office for partnerships, and therefore regarded as more influential. Through a half-year long strict assessment and furious competition, a group of outstanding models finally came out in the worldwide and have won their recognitions. At the awards ceremony held on that night, five categories of awards were presented as follows:
1st category Global Green City
2nd category Global Low-carbon Ecological Scenic Spot
3rd category Global Human Settlements Outstanding Contribution Award
